Bodies

Photographs By: Beatrix @with_love_beatrix

“BODIES” IS BUILT FROM FRAGMENTS. USING DIGITAL COLLAGE, I TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS FROM MY OWN ARCHIVE AND BROKEN THEM APART INTO COMPOSITIONS THAT MAKE THE FAMILIAR UNFAMILIAR.

FACES SLIDE INTO SHADOW, BODIES ARE CROPPED AND OVERLAID, DETAILS DISAPPEAR. WHAT REMAINS IS NOT A COMPLETE FIGURE BUT A SUGGESTION OF SOMETHING THAT RESISTS BEING FULLY UNDERSTOOD.

THESE IMAGES ECHO THE WAY KINK AND SEXUAL EXPRESSION ARE OFTEN FORCED INTO CONCEALMENT: CODED, SIDELINED, AND MISINTERPRETED. MY GOAL WAS NOT NECESSARILY TO REVEAL THE SUBJECTS SO MUCH AS CELEBRATE THEIR SHADOW.

ABOUT

Beatrix

Beatrix is a co-founder of Société Anonyme and an artist working primarily in portrait and fashion photography. Originally trained as a painter, she worked at various artist studios as a painting assistant, painter, and graphic designer, and art director before discovering photography in 2020.

Since then, her focus has been on photographing folks in a way that feels raw, natural, and authentic to who they are. Her process is deeply reliant on risk, collaboration, and improvisation. She’s interested in the capacity for intimacy between photographer and subject, in the delicate nature of transient moments, and in embracing imperfect outcomes.
