Ruin

Société Anonyme - Volume 10

Everything you love will eventually be ruined.

Your body. Your favorite shirt. The building you grew up in. The relationship you swear is different this time. Every perfect thing you’ve ever touched is already somewhere in the process of becoming something else.

And still, we make things.

A chef spends a lifetime perfecting food destined to become shit or garbage. A surgeon saves the life of someone who may go on to destroy another. You fall in love knowing they will eventually leave, learn exactly how to hurt you, or die.

“A chef spends a lifetime perfecting food destined to become shit or garbage.”

And still, we cook. We save lives. We fall in love. We build and protect and preserve, knowing exactly where it all ends. But somewhere beneath that instinct to create lies another one — the urge to break, burn, tear apart, push the beautiful thing off the edge just to watch it fall. Most of us learn to keep that urge under control. We call that civilization.

Kink gives us permission to scratch that itch.

We tie, we hit, we bruise, we humiliate each other. We take something we value — a body, our control, our dignity, our carefully constructed sense of self — and hand it to someone we trust to fuck it up.

Then we say thank you.

For this issue, we asked our community to consider ruin — what we build, what we destroy, what others destroy for us, and what remains afterward. The work in these pages is what they left behind.

Thank you to everyone who trusted us with their work, their bodies, their fantasies, their damage, and their peculiar little corners of themselves.

Everything we make is temporary.

The only question is what you plan to do before it’s gone.

Are you here to create — or are you here to ruin?
